The Detroit Pistons are headed to the playoffs, and Little Caesars Arena is getting a full makeover to match the moment. The team announced Wednesday a slate of pregame events, new food items, and retail drops tied to the first two home games of the first round.
Game one tips off Sunday. The pregame fan fest outside Little Caesars Arena starts at 3:30 p.m., giving fans 90 minutes to hit sneaker cleaning and customization stations, get airbrush tattoos, grab free coffee, or shoot on a half-court setup before doors open at 5 p.m. The first 10,000 fans through the doors get thundersticks, and every fan gets a free t-shirt. Game two brings rally towels for the whole building.
The team is also asking fans to be in their seats before tip-off. There are “special surprise playoff elements” planned for player introductions and in-game entertainment, per the Pistons’ announcement.
What’s on the menu
The food program is where things get specific. Little Caesars Arena will carry a set of playoff-themed items alongside its regular concessions, and the additions lean hard into Detroit food culture.
The Coop at Portals 18 and 19 will serve the All The Time Fry, seasoned fries with All The Time Spice Blend, All The Time Sauce, and fresh scallions. The Scoop, also at Portals 18 and 19, carries the Full Court Press Sundae: vanilla ice cream with red or blue soda, sprinkles, and a Pistons-branded topper, all served in a souvenir sneaker cup. Portal 26 has the Playoff Running Taco, an oversized walking taco built on a bag of Flamin Hot Cheetos with protein and topping options. Portable 42 runs the Arena Cantina Pizza Box Nachos, house-fried chips with smoked pulled chicken or barbacoa, two queso options, and standard nacho toppings.
Portal 28 is the real draw. Detroit Street Lab, a concept rooted in Detroit’s street food culture, gets several new playoff-only additions. The Bad Boy Blue is a Pistons exclusive: a Korean corn dog with brick cheese, Blue Takis, crispy potato crust, takoyaki sauce, and Kewpie mayo. There’s also a Street Lab Coney, an all-beef hot dog built with chili cheese Fritos, crispy onions, and mustard. That one’s basically a Detroit Coney Island hot dog rebuilt for the arena format.
On the sando side, the Assembly Line Steak Sando features grilled tenderloin, rice wine slaw, Kewpie mayo, and takoyaki sauce on RSA milk bread. Two items come from Eric Loves Cooking: the Eric’s Motor City Crisp, which stacks two Fairway Packing Co. beef patties with brick cheese, shredded lettuce, Eric’s 313 sauce, and mild pepperoncini, and the Eric’s Deli Steak Sandwich, shaved tri-tip with Havarti, garlic horseradish sauce, lettuce, tomato, onion, and giardiniera. The Foundry Fried Rice rounds out the menu with bacon lardons, kimchi, yum yum sauce, and takoyaki drizzle. Those items, as reported by WXYZ (7 Action News), are new for the playoff run.
What to buy
The Pistons are also rolling out postseason retail. New items include a team roster lineup t-shirt, a caricature graphic t-shirt, and the Nike NBA Playoff Mantra Shirt. The one to watch is the “Detroit Dub” shirt, which won’t be available for purchase until after a Pistons win. No win, no shirt.
Why this matters
Detroit hasn’t seen playoff basketball at home in years. The Pistons last made the NBA Playoffs in 2019, a first-round exit that feels like a different era now. This team is younger and hungrier, and the organization is clearly betting that fans will show up ready.
The food and activation push is also a signal about how Little Caesars Arena is trying to position itself. Bringing in local vendors like Eric Loves Cooking and leaning on Detroit Street Lab’s street food identity gives the arena a connection to the city that standard concession menus don’t.
For fans heading to the game, Portal 28 is going to be the busiest spot in the building. Plan accordingly.
